Launch of the First Ever ScotHot Young Restaurateur of the Year Award and Young Scottish Hotelier of the Year Award Sponsored by Caterer.com
Scothot is offering young stars of the Scottish restaurant and hotel industries the opportunity to shine by hosting the first ever Young Restaurateur of the Year and Young Hotelier of the Year Awards, supported by industry heavyweights Martin Wishart and Stephen Carter OBE.
Launched at the Best Employers in Hospitality Awards on 28 September, the new awards, sponsored by Caterer.com, recognise young Scottish Restaurateurs and Hoteliers that are achieving success for their businesses and clearly demonstrating the key attributes of a successful manager.
The winning restaurateur, will earn themselves a fantastic work placement with Martin Wishart including hosting a lunch at Restaurant Martin Wishart as Maitre'D. The winning Hotelier will receive a fantastic prize including a work placement with Stephen Carter OBE of Cameron House on Loch Lomond.
The judges will be looking for clear evidence of how entrants have achieved success in the business through demonstration of the following:
• Increase in sales revenue and/or profit
• Excellent leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire your team
• Innovative working practices
• Clear approach to sourcing, selecting and working with exemplar suppliers, including local producers
• Commitment to exceptional customer care and raising quality
• A clear understanding of your target markets and demonstration of product development to suit existing or new markets
• A clear vision for the future of the business
The winners will be announced during ScotHot 2011 which takes place at the SECC from 28 February – 3 March. Scothot is Scotland’s hospitality trade show attended by over 8,000 members of the Scottish hospitality industry. The show hosts an extensive programme of highly respected awards which in 2011 will focus heavily on young, up and coming talent including five new awards designed specifically for the under 30 category and the Future Talent Restaurant hosted by Scottish Colleges.Stephen Carter OBE said: “I am very excited to be involved in the Young Scottish Hotelier of the Year Award and look forward to mentoring one of Scottish hospitality’s brightest young people.
“The creation of these awards go a long way to highlighting the need for investment in, and the importance of encouraging, the next generation of industry leaders.”

1. This Award is open to senior managers within the hotel or restaurant industry, general managers and owners aged 30 or under.
2. Individuals can enter themselves, however where appropriate a statement of support from your line manager must be submitted with the entry.
3. The entrant must have worked in the hospitality industry for minimum of 3 years and must be working in a Scottish establishment
4. A shortlist of applicants will be invited to present to the Award judging panel in January 2011. Travel expenses, if any, of the applicants for the presentation will be borne by the applicant or the company.
5. All finalists will be given complimentary admission to ScotHot 2011 and the winner will be announced at the Award Ceremony on the 2nd March 2011 at the SECC.
6. The winner of the Award will be presented with an Award, certificate and also a work placement
